Body Composition

The world is experiencing a nutrition transition in which undernutrition coexists with overnutrition. To guide public health and nutrition policy makers and stakeholders in assessing the situation and in the evaluation of nutrition intervention programmes to address both under and overnutrition, techniques are needed that provide reliable information on body composition (fat and lean mass). The IAEA provides information on the theoretical background as well as the practical application on the measurement of body composition using stable isotope dilution and dual-energy X ray absorptiometry (DXA) in the related links to the right.
