Method Type |
Screening, Quantitative
Scope and Application |
For the analysis of Ethylene bis-Dithiocarbamate (EBDC) in fruits and vegetables with a reporting limit of 0.04 microgram per gram as zineb equivalent.
Method Summary |
A homogenized sample (50.0 grams) is extracted in 4N HCl and SnCl2 and then diluted in purified water before cleanup by ion exchange using resins in a BioRad Econo-Pak column. The analyte is eluted using NaHCO3 and derivatized with o-Phthaladehyde and
2-Mercaptoethanol involving overnight heating. The solution is further acidified with HCl and mixed well in methanol prior to analysis by HPLC/FL (excitation 290 nm, emission 447 nm). An ODS-1 analytical column (25 cm, 4.6 mm) is used for separation.

Applicable Concentration Range |
Ethylene bis-Dithiocarbamates can be detected in fruits and vegetables between 0.02 and 0.21 microgram per grams.
