| Method Title |
Screen for Melengestrol Acetate in Fat Using ELISA |
| Method Date |
2006/02/01 |
| Method Type |
Screening |
| Scope and Application |
This method can be used to screen the presence of Melengestrol Acetate (MGA) in rendered bovine fat. |
| Method Summary |
Fat rendered at 95 – 110 °C is thoroughly mixed with petroleum ether and the contents extracted by centrifugation. The supernatant is evaporated to dryness and the residue reconstituted in methanol. The solution is frozen for 45 minutes and centrifuged prior to clean-up using a RIDA® C18 column. The analyte is finally eluted from the column using 80/20 methanol/distilled water and the eluate analysed on an ELISA plate. Absorbance is read at 450 nm. |
| Applicable Concentration Range |
MGA may be detected in rendered bovine fat at the concentration levels ≥ 10 µg kg -1 |
