Veterinary Drugs Residue Methods

Category Antibacterial substances, including sulfonamides and quinolones
Drug Class Name Sulfonamides
Method Title Automated Robotic Extraction – TLC Analysis for Sulfonamide Residues in Animal Tissues, Eggs, and Egg Products
Method Date 2011/05/11
Method Type Screening
Scope and Application The method is suitable for the analysis of the following sulphonamide residues: Sulfathiazole, Sulfadiazine, Sulfachloropyridazine, Sulfamethazine, Sulfamethoxazole, Sulfamethoxypyridazine, Sulfaquinoxaline, Sulfaethoxypyridazine, Sulfadimethoxine, Sulfadoxine, Sulfamerazine, Sulfisoxazole, Sulfamethizole in muscle and liver tissues of porcine, bovine, and avian species, and processed products.
Method Summary Liver and muscle samples are blended/homogenized in ethyl acetate and centrifuged. Eggs and egg products are thoroughly mixed in ethyl acetate and centrifuged as well. The extracts are then spotted onto the pre-absorbant layer of LK6D thin layer plate and developed in methanol followed by chloroform/t-butanol (80:20) after drying the plate. The plate is then dipped in fluorescamine and scanned using a densitometer (410 ± 10nm excitation).
Applicable Concentration Range Sulfathiazole, Sulfadiazine, Sulfachloropyridazine, Sulfamethazine, Sulfamethoxazole, Sulfamethoxypyridazine, Sulfaquinoxaline, Sulfaethoxypyridazine, Sulfadimethoxine, Sulfadoxine, Sulfamerazine, Sulfisoxazole, Sulfamethizole may be detected at ≥ 50 µg kg-1 concentration level using the method in muscle and liver tissues of porcine, bovine, and avian species, and processed products.
