The material properties of graphite are changing when a piece of graphite is exposed to neutron irradiation.

The irradiation behaviour of the graphite components that are used in the neutron irradiation field of nuclear power reactors should be known when operating and designing reactors. To predict the irradiation behaviour graphite irradiation experiments are carried out in Material Test Reactors (MTR).
