LSVEC* lithium carbonate was prepared by H. Svec, Iowa State University [1], originally to be used as a reference material for lithium isotopic composition. Due to the quite negative δ13C value of this carbonate, it was much more frequently used as carbon stable isotope reference material [2]. In 2006 new guidelines were published for δ13C calibration, and recommend in addition to the use of the calibration material NBS 19 the additional use of an assigned δ13C value for LSVEC reference material to obtain an improved two-point calibration [3]. The recommended δ18O values of LSVEC are based on statistically evaluated results of an interlaboratory comparison [2].
