Fate

Toxicology
Mammals: Acute oral LD50 for rats 2066 mg/kg (technical). Acute percutaneous LD50 for rats >3100 mg/kg. Slight irritant to skin; non-irritant to eyes (rabbits). Inhalation LC50 (4 hours) for rats > 3.7 mg/l air. In 90-day feeding trials, no-effect level for rats was 20 mg/kg/day, and for dogs 10 mg/kg/day.

Uses
Loosening of olive fruit, which is then removed by mechanical shaking.

Notes

Bibliography

Mode of action
Plant growth regulator (abscission agent) that loosens fruit because of its ethylene-releasing activity.

Ecotoxicology
Birds: Non-toxic to birds.
Fish: LC50 (96 hours) for rainbow trout, curcian carp, bluegill sunfish > 100 mg/l.
