Fate
Toxicology
Mammals: Oral LD50 for male rats 4800, female rats 5210, male mice 1580, female mice 2740 mg/kg. Percutaneous LD50 for rats > 10,000 mg/kg. Inhalation LC50 (4 hours) for rats >1508 mg/m3. Non-irritant to skin and eyes (rabbits). Life-span feeding trials showed a non-effect level for rats 141 mg/kg/day, and for mice 284 mg/kg/day. There was no evidence of teratogenicity or mutagenicity.
In rats ethychlozate is rapidly excreted via the urine within almost 24 hours.

Bibliography
Mode of action
Ethychlozate has auxin-like activity, stimulating ethylene production with the formation of the abscission layer in young fruit. Since it rapidly translocates to the root system it also promotes root activity and hence improves fruit, quality.
