Fate
Environmental: In wet, neutral or alkaline soils, leaching occurs, particularly in soils having low clay or organic matter content. Leaching occurs to a much lesser extent in acidic soils. Microbial action accounts for the breakdown of a significant portion of perfluidone in the soil, although photodecomposition and volatilization also occur to some extent. Half-life in soil is approximately one month.

Toxicology
Mammals: Acute oral LD50 for rats 633, mice 920 mg/kg. Acute percutaneous LD50 for rabbits >4000 mg/kg. Severe eye irritant; mild skin irritant (rabbits). Acute inhalation LC50 (4 hours) for rats 3.2 mg/l air. In 90-day feeding trials, rats receiving ca. 800 mg/kg diet and dogs receiving ca. 200 mg/kg showed no ill-effects. Birds: Eight-day dietary LC50 for quail 7144, ducks >10,000 mg/kg (for WP formulation). Fish: LC50 (96 hours) for rainbow trout 312, bluegill sunfish 318 mg/l.

Uses

Mode of action: Selective herbicide which acts by contact and by rootabsorption, interfering with protein biosynthesis and withcellular respiration.

Uses: Pre-emergence herbicide for control of Cyperus esculentus, many grassy weedsand certain broad-leaved weeds in cotton, transplanted tobacco, rice, sugarcane, and established turf.
