General Information

2nd IAEA Technical Meeting on the
Fusion Data Processing, Validation and Analysis

30 May - 2 June 2017
Boston, USA

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will organize the Second Technical Meeting on Fusion Data Processing, Validation and Analysis from 30 May to 2 June 2017 in Boston, USA. The meeting will be hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston, USA).

The purpose of the meeting is to provide a platform for discussion of a set of topics relevant to fusion data processing, validation and analysis with a view to extrapolating needs in these areas to next-step fusion devices such as ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor). The validation and analysis of experimental data obtained from diagnostics used to characterize fusion plasmas is crucial for a knowledge based understanding of the physical processes governing the dynamics of these plasmas. The meeting will aim at fostering, in particular, discussions about research and development results that set out or underline trends observed in the current major fusion confinement devices.

The meeting will cover the following topics:

1. Uncertainty quantification;
2. Model selection, validation & verification;
3. Probability theory and statistical analysis;
4. Inverse problems & equilibrium reconstruction;
5. Integrated data analysis;
6. Real time data analysis;
7. Machine learning;
8. Signal/image processing & pattern recognition;
9. Experimental design and synthetic diagnostics;
10. Data management.
