1st IAEA Technical Meeting on
"Divertor Concepts"

29 September - 2 October 2015, Vienna, Austria
Organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency

Introduction

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will organize the first Technical Meeting on Divertor Concepts from 29 September to 2 October 2015 at the IAEA Headquarters, Vienna, Austria.

Objectives

The objective of the meeting is to provide a forum for discussing open physics and technology issues associated with conventional and alternative divertors as complete concepts for controlling plasma-wall interaction while providing optimal conditions for core fusion performance. The meeting will aim at fostering, in particular, discussions of the state of the art and solutions for different power exhaust problems.

Topics

  •     1. Divertor and confinement

  •     2. Radiative Power Exhaust

  •     3. Scrape-off layer and divertor physics

  •     4. Steady state operation and transient heat loads

  •     5. Plasma facing component materials and heat exhaust for steady         state operation

  •     6. Divertors for DEMO and reactors

Expenditure and Financial Support

The costs for the organization of the meeting are borne by the IAEA. No registration fee will be charged to participants. As a general rule, the IAEA does not pay travel and accommodation expenses for meeting participants. However, limited funds are available to help meet the cost of attendance of a few selected specialists, primarily those from developing countries with low economic resources. Generally, not more than one grant will be awarded to any one country. The grants awarded will be in the form of lump sums usually covering part of the cost of attendance.
Governments wishing to apply for a grant on behalf of one of their specialists should address specific requests to the Scientific Secretary responsible for this meeting to this effect. Governments should ensure that applications for grants are:

  1. received by the IAEA by 17 July 2015,

  2. accompanied by a duly completed and signed Grant Form C including the abstract of the paper to be presented,

  3. should include an estimate from an official travel agency of the travel cost. Applications that do not comply with the conditions mentioned above will not be considered. Awards will be announced by 27 July 2015.

Visas

Participants who require a visa to enter Austria should submit the necessary application to the nearest diplomatic or consular representative of Austria as soon as possible. An official letter of invitation will be issued to all participants. This letter will be needed for the visa application. In case of special requirements, please contact Ms Lilla HÉDERVÁRI.
