1st IAEA Technical Meeting on
"Fusion Data Processing, Validation and Analysis"

01-03 June 2015, Nice, France

Organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency
Hosted by the Institut de Recherche sur la Fusion par confinement Magnetique, IFRM, CEA Cadarache
IAEA-F1-TM-49932

Introduction

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will organize the first Technical Meeting on Fusion Data Processing, Validation and Analysis from 1 to 3 June 2015 in Nice, France. The meeting will be hosted by the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) through the Institute for Magnetic Fusion Research (IRFM).Institute for Research on Magnetic Fusion (IRFM).

Objectives

The objective of the meeting is to provide a platform where a set of topics relevant to fusion data processing, validation and analysis are discussed with the view of extrapolation needs to next step fusion devices such as ITER. The validation and analysis of experimental data obtained from diagnostics used to characterize fusion plasmas are crucial for a knowledge based understanding of the physical processes governing the dynamics of these plasmas. The meeting will aim at fostering, in particular, discussions of research and development results that set out or underline trends observed in the current major fusion confinement devices.

Topics

  •     1. Error analysis and propagation (EAP)

  •     2. Probability theory and statistics (PTS)

  •     3. Parameter estimation, inverse problems, equilibrium reconstruction
            (PPR)

  •     4. Integrated data analysis (IDA)

  •     5. Data mining (DM)

  •     6. Pattern recognition and machine learning (PRL)

  •     7. Signal, image and video processing (SIV)

  •     8. Real-time data analysis (RDA)

  •     9. Model selection and validation (MSV)

  •     10. Experimental design and synthetic diagnostics (EDD)

Expenditure and Financial Support

The costs for the organization of the meeting are borne by the IAEA. No registration fee will be charged to participants. As a general rule, the IAEA does not pay travel and accommodation expenses for meeting participants. However, limited funds are available to help meet the cost of attendance of a few selected specialists, primarily those from developing countries with low economic resources. Generally, not more than one grant will be awarded to any one country. The grants awarded will be in the form of lump sums usually covering part of the cost of attendance.
Governments wishing to apply for a grant on behalf of one of their specialists should address specific requests to the Scientific Secretary responsible for this meeting to this effect. Governments should ensure that applications for grants are:

  1. Received by the IAEA by 9 April 2015,

  2. Accompanied by a duly completed and signed Grant Form C including the abstract of the paper to be presented,

  3. Should include an estimate from an official travel agency of the travel cost. Applications that do not comply with the conditions mentioned above will not be considered. Awards will be announced by 9 April 2015.

Visas

Participants who require a visa to enter France should submit the necessary application to the nearest diplomatic or consular representative of France as soon as possible. A letter of invitation, if needed, can be requested from the Local Organizer.
