Regional Excellence Programme on Regulatory Capacity Building in Nuclear and Radiological Safety, and Emergency Preparedness and Response in Romania

Romania roll up_cropped.jpgThe IAEA Safety Assessment Section within the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety, in cooperation with the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA) and the Romanian National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control (CNCAN), is implementing the extrabudgetary “Regional Excellence Programme on Regulatory Capacity Building in Nuclear and Radiological Safety, and Emergency Preparedness and Response in Romania”. The programme, which started in April 2014 for a period of two years, covers eight main areas: safety assessment, management system, knowledge management, transport safety, emergency preparedness and response, safety of radiation sources, waste management and safeguards.

In its first year of implementation, the programme provided substantial support to the Romanian regulatory authority in enhancing its framework for safety, and provided a forum for exchanging good practices and methods between Romania, Norway and experts from other IAEA Member States with similar nuclear power programmes.
