The Third Consultancy on Safety Guide SG 1.10 - Design of Reactor Containment Systems for Nuclear Power Plants was held at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria from 16 to 20 March 2015. This consultancy meeting aimed to consolidate and agree on the main recommendations for the design of the containment structures and the associated containment systems for nuclear power plants. Considering the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, recommendations to identify and quantify all relevant single loads and combinations of loads were added, as well as generic design recommendations for the design of systems necessary to mitigate the consequences of design basis accidents and accidents with core melt. Detailed recommendations given by the existing revision were reviewed and modified as necessary.
As a follow-up, an additional consultancy meeting will be held in August 2015 in order to consolidate the work done at the third consultancy meeting, taking into account potential corrections.
