All You Need to Know:
PARENTAL LEAVE
The purpose of parental leave is to allow staff members a period of paid leave after the birth or adoption of a child to bond, nurture and take care of the child.
PARENTAL LEAVE FOR BIRTH PARENTS
- Staff members who become parents by giving birth (hereafter: birth parent(s)) shall be granted 26 weeks of parental leave with full pay.
- Parental leave for birth parents shall commence a minimum of two weeks and up to eight weeks prior to the expected date of delivery. If the actual date of delivery is earlier or later than the expected date, the parental leave period shall be adjusted accordingly.
- For maternal leave, staff members are expected to submit to VMS a mother-child pass or a confirmation of pregnancy as well as the EDD (Expected Date of Delivery) from their gynecaelogist. This should be done sometime during the pregnancy before the expected period of maternity leave. VMS subsequently informs HR about the upcoming maternity leave.
- Staff members going on paternal leave are expected to inform MTHR before the planned leave.
PARENTAL LEAVE FOR NON-BIRTH PARENTS
- Staff members who become parents without giving birth (hereafter: non-birth parent(s)) shall be granted 16 weeks of parental leave with full pay.
RETURN TO WORK
- Staff members may take time off for up to two hours per day in order to nurse their child up to two years of age. An extension of the nursing hours beyond two years of age may be granted exceptionally further to a recommendation by the VIC Medical Service.
