With pests never ceasing
around the world and global demands for food production ever increasing, the use
of pesticides in agriculture seems inevitable. However, resultant residues in
food for human consumption and/or the environment such as following injudicious
application may, negatively impact public health and trade, hence need for
oversight. Lack of effective regulatory control in many developing countries
notwithstanding, various national testing laboratories continue to seek
acceptable assay methods - including sampling protocols - to ensure safe and
saleable food products for both local consumption and international trade.
The pesticide residues
database of The Food Contaminant and Residue Information System (FCRIS) seeks to
address this need by providing public information relating to pesticides used in
agriculture, including multi-residue and single analyte screening, quantitative
and confirmatory analytical methods fit for national surveillance programs
