DIR-SIT has been established to aid the retrieval of information on facilities in the world mass rearing sterile insects, for purposes of using them to develop autocidal approaches or as part of operational area-wide integrated pest management programmes integrating the sterile insect technique,  inherited sterility and related approaches.

For each facility and target pest, the database compiles information on production capacity, the radiation process, quality control parameters and dosimetry. The major groups of insect pests for which DIR-SIT includes mass rearing information are fruit flies, mosquitoesmothsscrewworm flies , and tsetse flies.

We encourage and appreciate receiving regular feedback to be able to maintain DIR-SIT updated. In this regard, you are welcome to fill out the DIR-SIT form and send it to Contact_us

Important Note: For the best search results, please use the specific database search function on the left-hand side of the page, Browse DIR-SIT or DIR-SIT Facilities World Map

The Map shows the global distribution of facilities for mass-rearing sterile insects, in operation and also closed. Four key filter parameters can be used to retrieve relevant information on the map: by Country, Group of insects (Fruit flies, Mosquitoes, Moth, Tsetse, Screwworm, Others), Species (All in alphabetical order), and Irradiation source.
