 About us
During the organizational meeting, held on the 11th of May 2005 in Vienna, approximately 60 participants, of more than 30 Institutions in 25 countries, decided to establish the Tephritid Workers of Europe, Africa and the Middle East (TEAM) as an independent, professional and scientific organization. Since that meeting the list of TEAM members has been growing constantly and contains currently more than one hundred people.

TEAM consists as an independent, professional and scientific organization that intends to
·         provide a platform of interaction that will promote collaboration and communication among scientists of Europe, Africa and the Middle East,
·         pursue and stimulate the generation of basic and applied research to solve agricultural and trade problems related to fruit flies in these regions,
·         serve as a consulting forum to State Agencies on topics related to the noxious effect of fruit flies,
·         act as a link between other world organizations dealing with fruit flies in order to generate joint activities,
·         serve to bring the general public closer to the scientific and technical community working with fruit flies.

The next TEAM meeting will take place in Mauritius in 2024. Dr Preeaduth
Sookar and his colleagues have kindly offered to organize this four
yearly event on their magnificent and beautiful island in the Indian Ocean
and received formal approval to do so from the Mauritian Ministry
of Agro Industry and Food Security. In the forthcoming months
the TEAM steering committee and the local organizing committee will
work out further details and we will certainly keep you up to date. We are
all looking forward to meeting up again two years’ time.

______________________________________________________________ TEAM Meeting France: change in deadlines
Dear TEAM members, We hope you, your colleagues and your families are all in good health. We also hope that you can cope with the, sometimes difficult, changed working conditions. We realize the current situation has a great impact on your (research) activities.
Regarding the planned TEAM meeting in France, scheduled for early October this year. Currently the organizing committee has decided not to cancel or postpone the meeting as of yet. The situation regarding lockdown, possibilities for international travel, large events, etc in the near or distant future is still uncertain. We may get (partial) relief of some measures in the months to come or not; nobody knows for sure.
I would like to express my thanks to Valérie Balmés and the other members of the organizing committee for their handling of the organisation of this meeting. The situation is not easy and needs close monitoring. As far as practical arrangements are concerned for the organizing committee, there are no major financial implications for not calling off the meeting at this moment, so we decided to wait and see. Probably near the end of June, we will have to take a final decision.
We did, however, change the deadlines for early registration and submission of abstracts. These are now extended till July 1st, 2020.
Please check the TEAM website ( for the latest information. We will keep you updated on any further changes or decisions. Please bear with us in these difficult period.
Take care of yourself and those close to you.
