MEETING RECORD

IAEA INTERNATIONAL KNOWLEDGE BASE ON NUCLEAR GRAPHITE

Technical Meeting on the Status of the International Knowledge Base on Nuclear Graphite (I3-TM-47868)

11 to 12 December 2014

Room M0E16 (Building M)

Vienna International Centre (VIC)

Background

Established in 1999, the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA’s) International Knowledge Base on Nuclear Graphite Properties seeks to preserve and further expand the scientific information on the physical, chemical, mechanical and other properties of graphites relevant for nuclear power, nuclear safety and other nuclear science and technology applications. The data archive it contains has proven invaluable to the nuclear graphite community, and it is currently supporting a coordinated research project on irradiation creep in nuclear graphite along with a number of individual Member State research and reactor-life-extension activities. Originally developed and maintained by the IAEA's Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, the knowledge base was transferred to the Department of Nuclear Energy in 2010.

Purpose

The purpose of this meeting is explore and find a solution for the technical difficulties of the International Graphite Knowledgebase hosted within the SharePoint platform in Nucleus on the IAEA web site. Some difficulties have been experienced over the last two years by users to access linked reference documents and possible solutions and future plans will be discussed. The meeting will also carry out a short review of progress achieved in the knowledge base and plan for the next full committee meeting in March 2015. A report on the “Role of Nuclear Grade Graphite in Controlling Oxidation in Modular HTGRs” and a proposed activity on “Manufacture graphite by design for specific requirements” will be discussed, including the general principle of engaging in these kinds of review activities as a specific purpose of the reviewed KB Project. Time will also be used to start defining the taxonomy keywords and structure for future knowledgebase implementation and discuss any new activities.

Proposed implementation project A:
Redesign of the INGSM meeting records (presentations) loaded onto the KB -> This could be a proper implementation with keyword search etc - so a first case study.
Ahmed, Maxim, David, Tufan

Functionality and interim solutions:

  • The implementation of new links in Excel to overcome the issues we have been experiencing with downloading documents accessed via the Excel spreadsheets.
  • The current web site upgrade / functionality. Especially log on screen
  • The short term upgrade process (I expect a new spreadsheet and many files -> how to upload etc, Advise by Maxim, Implementation Tufan)
