Technical Meeting on the Status of the
IAEA Nuclear Graphite Knowledge Base
Virtual Event
30 November – 2 December 2021
Ref. No.: EVT1904029
Introduction
Established in 1999, the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA’s) Nuclear Graphite Knowledge Base (NGKB) seeks to preserve and further expand the scientific information on the physical, chemical, mechanical and other properties of nuclear graphites relevant for nuclear power, nuclear safety and other nuclear science and technology applications. The data archive it contains has proven invaluable to the nuclear graphite community, and it is currently supporting a coordinated research project on irradiation creep in nuclear graphite along with a number of individual Member State research and reactor-life-extension activities. Originally developed and maintained by the IAEA’s Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, the knowledge base was transferred to the Department of Nuclear Energy in 2010.
Objectives
The objective of the event is to provide the participants with an opportunity to report on activities in Member States related to nuclear graphite and on possible contributions to the NGKB. The action matrix for the NGKB will be reviewed and updated. Plans to further develop the NGKB will also be formulated, potential new members will be identified and the activities for the next year will be planned.
Target Audience
The event is targeted at the appointed liaison officers for the participating Member States, representatives of the commercial entities that are sponsoring the NGKB and a number of observers from potential new participating Member States or suitably qualified individuals who have expressed an interest in contributing to the project.
